چکیده

Appropriate reconstruction of the bone anatomy is necessary to obtain a good functional outcome after total knee replacement (TKR) (1, 2). Restoration of the native posterior femoral offset has been described as a significant prognostic factor, mainly for completion of a good range of motion in flexion (3). The measurement of the posterior offset prior to the TKR on standard X-ray or CT-scan may be inaccurate because the thickness of the remaining cartilage cannot be assessed. The measurement of the posterior offset prior to the TKR on MRI is not routinely performed. The postoperative evaluation of offset restoration may also be inaccurate, as the rotational positioning of the femur may impact the 2D image of the implant and the measure performed. We hypothesized that the measurement of the restoration of the posterior femoral offset by a navigation system during the implantation is more precise than the conventional post-operative measurement on post-operative standard X-rays.

Diagnostic Value of Ischial Spine Sign in Patients with Acetabular Retroversion

Background: Acetabular Retroversion (AR) is a hip disorder and one of the causes of pain in this area. Evaluationof positive Cross Over Sign (COS) on AP X-Rays of the hip is currently the best method of diagnosis of AR. Severalstudies have measured co-existence of Ischial Spine Sign (ISS) in patients with AR. In this study we evaluated thediagnostic value of ISS in confirmation of AR and compar...

Determination of anterior femoral bowing to length ratio in Iranian population

Due to the existence of different races and ethnicities and their different life styles, anatomical structure of people vary from one region of the world to another. The goal of this study is to determine the anterior femoral bowing to length ratio, which can be useful for planning major medical and therapeutic projects as well as designing medical equipment (including nails, orthoses and prost...

Effect of Posterior Femoral Condylar Offset and Posterior Tibial Slope on Maximal Flexion Angle of the Knee in Posterior Cruciate Ligament Sacrificing Total Knee Arthroplasty

PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of femoral condylar offset and posterior tibial slope on maximal flexion angle of the knee in posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)-sacrificing total knee arthroplasty (TKA, Medial-Pivot Knee System). MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-five knees in 35 patients who could be followed up more than 1 year after PCL-sacrificing TKA were evaluated retrospectively. We measured a...

Patient dose in routine X-ray examinations in Yazd state

Background: Medical x-rays are the largest man-made source of public exposure to ionizing radiation. It is important to avoid conditions where the amount of radiation used is more than that needed for the procedure. Materials and Methods: The Entrance Skin Exposure (ESE) measurement was conducted for quality control of x-ray machines and survey of operator’s experimental techniques. The ESEs we...

Effects of Hip Geometry on Fracture Patterns of Proximal Femur

Background: Some studies have previously shown that geometry of proximal femur can affect the probability of fracture and type of fracture. It happens since the geometry of the proximal femur determines how a force is applied to its different parts. In this study, we have compared proximal femur’s geometric characteristics in femoral neck (FNF), intertrochanteric (ITF) and Subtrochanteric (ST...
